Seljalandsfoss waterfall

Mountain range near Skaftafell park in the south coast

It is possible to walk behind the waterfall and experience some hidden magic behind the 60-meter/197 ft cascade. Its water its origins directly at the magnificent volcano glacier, Eyjafjallajokull. You might even see a double rainbow if you are lucky! Don't forget raincoat as you will get wet from the drizzle! (Please note that during winter, the path behind the cascade may be closed as it gets too slippery and dangerous.)

Since waterfalls are awesome, we now drive to the next waterfall which is called Skogafoss. Its height is the same as Seljaladsfoss, but Skogafoss is much wider (25 meters /80 feet). Although it’s not possible to walk behind this one, you can walk very close to the cascade and get totally wet if you want! Or even climb the stairs up to its top.

Skogafoss produces colorful rainbows on sunny days, and double rainbows are its specialty. This waterfall is also a Hollywood movie star, it appeared in the movies Thor: The Dark World and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. And of course, it appeared in Justin Bieber's music video.

Please note that we are visiting this location only till June 1st, 2022.

The small seaside village of Vík, also known as Vík í Mýrdal, is the southernmost village in Iceland. It has around 300 inhabitants, making it the largest settlement in the area.

One of the most famous sights in Vík is the tiny little church, named Víkurkirkja, sitting on the top of a hill over the village. The cliffs around Vík create absolutely breathtaking scenery!

Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach in Iceland

The legendary black volcanic beach with basalt columns, lava rock formations, towering sea stacks, and basalt column caves is totally breathtaking. In fact, Reynisfjara has been ranked as one of the ten most beautiful non-tropical beaches in the world by the American journal!

The Reynisdrangar basalt rock sea stacks rise over the sea just off the shore. As local folklore goes, these odd pillars were trolls who turned into stone by the touch of the rising sun when they came back too late from a fishing trip.

These cliffs and sea stacks here are home to a number of nesting seabird species during the summertime. Iceland's iconic, funny-looking seabird, the Atlantic Puffin can be found here between early May and late August. In the distance, you the Dyrhólaey rock arches are visible, making the view even more unforgettable.

skaftafell park view in winter

On this tour, we will make a stop at a special place where we will have a great view over Skaftafell National Park and Vatnajökull Glacier, with Iceland's highest peak, Hvannadalshnjúkur towering above the landscape. During summer we will make a stop at Skeiðará Bridge offering a great viewing point and a photo stop over the National Park.

Skaftafell appears in several famous movies such as Batman Begins, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty and the James Bond movie A View to A Kill. Game of Thrones and Interstellar were both shot around the Svínafellsjökull glacier, which is now often called ‘the Hollywood Glacier’!

Please note that we are visiting this location only till June 1st, 2022.

woman looking at jokulsarlon glacier lagoon

This epic lagoon is the biggest star of the South Coast. The dream-like glacier lake - the deepest lake in the country -  is situated at the southern end of the Vatnajökull ice cap. As the glacier retreats, icebergs of all sizes and shapes break off its tip floating across the lagoon, drifting slowly from the tip of the glacier towards the ocean. This thrilling environment is constantly changing as the massive glacier tongue retreats more and more.

Jokulsarlon has appeared in many movies. To name a few: Batman Begins and the James Bond movies: A View to a Kill and Die Another Day. We spend some time here and enjoy the magnificent scenery.

A short walk away, you can find the Diamond Beach (or Crystal Beach), a nearby black sand beach where the big icebergs are washed ashore and break into millions of ice crystals, decorating the sand as glittering diamonds.

Pick-up: Pick-up starts at 8:00 am (from the 1st of June, the pickup starts at 7:00 am). You will be picked up from your selected pick-up location in Reykjavík. Please note, that the pick-up can take up to 30 min.

The best tour so far!

Thanks so much to Guðjón! I’ve never been on a tour with such a knowledgeable and funny guide. He defenitely knew his way around the South Coast and shared many interesting stories and facts about Iceland. He made sure that we had a great tour even though the weather was the worst. Guðjón even stopped at Skogáfoss and the Black Sand Beach, which were not planned stops due to the season. Thank you again!

Long day but so worth it!

I would encourage anyone visiting Iceland to do this trip. The minibus was comfortable, and the group was small with around 13 of us on it. The tour guides there are back were knowledgeable, and went out of their way to make sure that we had the best of experiences. The sights and stops were amazing, and this trip really was the highlight of our stay in Iceland. If you're in doubt, then don't be - do it, you won't regret it.

Jokulsarlon trip

This is a very long day trip- but totally worth it. The sights at Jokulsarlon Lagoon and Diamond Beach are truly amazing. Plenty of rest stops along the way & we also stopped at a couple of waterfalls which was great. Our guide on the outward trip (Haffi) was lovely. Unfortunately the return guide Tomas repeated more or less the same commentary- but not quite so charmingly! Other than that it was a wonderful day

Very very pleased with the tour! There are a lot of things to see along the way and even tho you may not have time to stop at all of them, the guide is very happy to give you more information and explain everything! It was fantastic and I would definitely recommend!

Tour guide - Freeman - was great. Told stories and had a fun personality. His driving was a bit much for me though - pretty aggressive. Part of the tour was cancelled due to weather, but Freeman made the day it work. The vehicle was not super comfortable for someone with long legs and such a long tour. However - the day was a success and we had great time!

Had a great time!

Coming from a tropical country, I did enjoy this trip during the winter. The scenery getting to the South Coast was magnificent! Although the time spent in each attraction was too limited, overall, it was still a great trip. I probably would go for at least the 2-day trip if you want to really make the most out of your time in the south coast area.

I think we were the first tourists from Bosnia as the guide said. The adventure is wonderful. Guide Tomas, a brilliant human being, has great knowledge of Iceland, kind person, great professional. Buses are comfortable. the organization is top notch. all praise for the complete tour, I recommend to everyone as a compulsory part while visiting Iceland.

Iceland's South Coast is Amazing!

Reviewed on October 30, 2018 by Mike Reilley From our post-trip system

My wife and I took South Coast tour mainly to take a ride on the Glacier Lagoon. That part of the tour was amazing, but the rest of the trip was incredible too. Had we known how beautiful the South Coast is, we would have booked most of our 10 day trip along the coast and just driven to the many landmark locations there are to visit. In the end, our one day tour was all we got along the South Coast, and it was really fun. The waterfalls, Black Beach, Diamond Beach and the Glacier Lagoon were incredible experiences, not to mention the scenery and towns we passed on the long drive. One thing to mention, the bus is not as large as you may think as you see some of the huge tour buses driving around. The seats are a bit small, but it's pretty comfortable and, I thought, very affordable. The drive is long, but very worth it. If you are like us and didn't have any idea about the beauty along the South Coast, take this tour early in your trip, and you might find reason to deviate from your original itinerary.

Glacier Lagoon Tour

Would recommend this tour to anyone that asks. Yes it is a long tour and you need to be prepared for that, but WOW it was magical. Yannis was a mine of information and the guide going home also. Suggestion only, Can the Skogafoss Waterfall be done on the way to Jokulsarlon, rather than the way back in late September. Unable to see due to being very dark The only moment of downside in a magical day Thank You for an amazing experience
